Gatewood Bell Joins Nicoma

Gatewood Bell, son of Darley USA President Jimmy Bell, has joined the staff of Nicoma Bloodstock, it was announced Dec. 12.

Nicoma Bloodstock is a Lexington-based agency operated by P. Headley Bell, son of Mill Ridge farm owner Alice Chandler. Bell founded Nicoma along with Chandler and Circle O Farm owner Bill O'Neill in 1979 after graduating from Vanderbilt University. Nicoma was the adviser for the connections of two winners of the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I)--James Tafel, who raced 2007 winner Street Sense, and Roy and Gretchen Jackson, who campaigned 2006 winner Barbaro.

Gatewood Bell worked for trainer Kiaran McLaughlin for the past three years and also spent a brief stint as an agent for jockey Fernando Jara, handling Jara's business in Florida last winter and through Keeneland's spring meet this year.
