Continuing the string of winning favorites Friday at Pimlico, Confessional took the $75,000 guaranteed The Very One Stakes. But it wasn't easy.

The 5-year-old mare, by Holy Bull -- Whisper Who Dares, by Green Dancer, had to work hard to hold off Merry Princess to post the win in the 5-furlong sprint race. Heavily favored Confessional paid $2.60, $2.20 and $2.10.

The Very One was the 10th race on the card, and the favorite had won nine of the 10.

Confessional ran the distance in :56 2/5, just a fifth off the course record.

Owned by Josephine Abercrombie's Pin Oak Stud and trained by Graham Motion, Confessional was ridden by Ramon Dominguez.

Merry Princess, making her first start of the year, paid $5.40 and $2.40. Dressy Dress was third and returned $3.20.
