The Race Track Chaplaincy of Arkansas has named Rev. John “TC” Megahan as chaplain for the 2008 racing season at Oaklawn Park.

Megahan comes to Oaklawn with more than 28 years of ministry as a pastor, counselor, and chaplain. He is currently the volunteer chaplain at Delaware Park.

“I fell in love with Oaklawn last spring when I visited with trainers Larry and Cindy Jones in March," Megahan said. "It was obvious to me that Oaklawn is a first-class operation, and I am privileged to be a part of this ministry. I look forward to serving the needs of these dedicated folks."

A native of Turtle Creek, Pa., Megahan is a 1983 graduate of Valley Forge Christian College, where he earned a master’s degree in divinity. He is currently working on his doctorate in counseling. Megahan is also a certified grief specialist and does work in the area of bereavement recovery.

Following the Oct. 27 Breeders' Cup Classic - Powered by Dodge (gr. I), he ministered to the George Washington training team after the colt was euthanized on the track. Megahan is anticipating the publication of his first book, The Reluctant Journey, in May 2008.

Megahan is planning trips for employees on the track's dark days to visit local attractions and sporting events. He plans to return as Delaware Park's chaplain for the 2008 season, which begins in May.
