Leading NY Sire Catienus Back to KY

Ken and Sarah Ramsey’s Catienus  , the leading sire in New York in 2006 and 2007, has returned to Ramsey Farm in Nicholasville, Ky., it was announced Nov. 14.

Catienus, by Storm Catout of the Mr. Prospector mare Diamond City, is the sire of grade I winners Precious Kitten and Dawn of War. He has sired 17 stakes winners overall and was represented by three Breeders’ Cup runners in 2007, including Talent Search (third in the grade I TVG Breeders’ Cup Sprint) and Cannonball (third in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf). 

Catienus won five races for earnings of $370,386. In 1999 he won the Charles Staats Memorial Stakes at Delaware Park, finished second in the Suburban Handicap (gr. II) at Belmont Park and the Saratoga Breeders’ Cup Handicap (gr. II) and third in the Whitney Handicap (gr. I) at Saratoga. The following year, he finished second in the Saratoga Breeders’ Cup Handicap (gr. II).

The stallion stood at Ramsey Farm from 2001 to 2003, then spent the 2004 season at Doc and Suzie O’Cain’s Highcliff Farm in New York. He returned to Ramsey Farm in 2005, then went to Highcliff for 2006 and 2007. He will stand for $10,000 in 2008.
