Grade II winner Bwana Charliewill stand in 2008 at Brent and Crystal Fernung's Journeyman Stud near Ocala, Fla. Formerly at Becky Thomas' Sequel Stallions near Orange Lake, Fla., the 6-year-old son of Indian Charlie will stand for $6,500.
As a 3-year-old in 2004, Bwana Charlie won the 2004 Amsterdam Stakes (gr. II) over Pomeroyand Weigelia at Saratoga and the Lafayette Stakes (gr. III) at Keeneland. He also ran a solid fourth in that year's Breeders' Cup Sprint (gr. I). He won or placed in 13 of 19 races and earned $388,850.
"He was a top class sprinter, has a solid pedigree, and looks the part," Brent Fernung said.
Bwana Charlie, whose first foals are weanlings, is a half-brother to 2007 graded stakes winner Bwana Bull and is out of the Halo mare Shahalo. He is owned by Thomas in partnership with Bill Heiligbrodt and Dennis Narlinger.
