Santiago ran off to a powerful three length victory in the Premio Ribot (Ity-II) at Capannelle on Nov. 4.
Held up at the back of the field for much of the eight furlong contest, Santiago rallied with just over a furlong to run, and took command 150 yards from the wire. The gray was ridden out strongly to the finish by jockey E. Botti.
Miles Gloriosus held on well for second, three lengths in front of Il Cadetto. Final time for the eight furlongs was 1:38.
The German-bred Santiago races as a homebred for Gestut Hof Vesterberg, and is trained by Hans Blume. Santiago is a 5-year-old horse by Highest Honor out of the Lomitas mare, Serenata.
