Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Sprint winner Maryfield brings $1,250,000 at Fasig-Tipton Kentucky Selected Fall Mixed Sale.

Maryfield, recent winner of the inaugural Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Sprint, sold for $1,250,000 Sunday at the Fasig-Tipton November select mixed sale to the Southern Equine Stables operation of Michael Moreno and trainer Eric Guillot. She sold as a broodmare prospect.

"My partner Michael Moreno and I are in the commercial broodmare end of it, and we’re in the racing end of it; we play both ends," Guillot said. "She is an awesome, grade I, big, scopey filly that won the Breeders' Cup. I didn't think her physical helped. You could tell she was underweight, and I think that scared a lot of buyers off her maybe. They are going to sell horses for more money than that today that didn’t accomplish near what she accomplished, and she's by Elusive Quality  . I thought it was a no brainer. I was going to go higher than that to be honest with you. I thought we got a hell of a deal. I've got people who already wanted to partner up with me after I signed the ticket."

A 6-year-old, Maryfield scored in five added-money events, including this year's Ballerina Stakes (gr. I) and Distaff Breeders' Cup Handicap (gr. II). Taylor Made Sales Agency, agent, consigned the Maryfield, who was raced by Mark Gorman, Nick Mestrandrea, and Jim Perry and trained by Doug O'Neill.

"I don't think we'll run her from what I gather," Guillot said. "I talk to Doug and he'll tell me about her. I knew she had a little bit of an issue on a right ankle, if I'm not mistaken, and she's too valuable to take a chance on breaking her down. We'll probably breed her to A.P. Indy."
