Thewayyouare Sings Winning Tune at Saint-Cloud

Thewayyouare earned his first group I victory with a hard-fought win over Hello Morning in the Criterium International (Fr-I) at Saint-Cloud Nov. 1. It later was revealed a majority interest in the colt had been sold to Coolmore.

The 2-year-old son of Kingmambo has now captured four of five lifetime starts, and is one of the early favorites for the Epsom Derby (Eng-I) next June.

“Coolmore has obtained a majority interest in Thewayyouare and, at the end of his racing career, he will join Coolmore as a stallion. Until then he will continue to run in the colors of Sean Mulryan,” said Mulryan's racing manager Herve Barjot.

Thewayyouare raced comfortably in fifth under Stephane Pasquier as Redolent, under Johnny Murtagh, led the field through the first six furlongs.  As the juveniles entered the straight, both Thewayyouare and Hello Morning moved up to challenge Redolent for the lead.

Redolent soon folded, leaving Thewayyouare and Hello Morning to battle it out to the wire.  The pair exchanged leads throughout the last furlong, with Thewayyouare finally gaining the upper hand as they neared the wire.

Thewayyouare won by a half-length over Hello Morning, with Redolent settling for third, another six lengths further back.  Final time for the eight furlongs was 1:45.3 over the very soft turf.

Thewayyouare's victory in the Criterium added further luster to his already brilliant female family.  The bay colt is out of the winning Sadler's Wells' mare Maryinsky, and is a half-brother to the outstanding 3-year-old filly Peeping Fawn.

Better Than Honour, a half-sister to Maryinsky, is the dam of back to back Belmont Stakes (gr. I) winners Rags to Riches and Jazil.

Thewayyouare is trained by Andre Fabre.
