Chips Are Down, a stakes-winning son of Distorted Humor , has been retired from racing and will enter stud at Godstone Farm near Pine Grove, Pa. Owned by a partnership, he will stand for $2,000.
A $450,000 Keeneland September yearling, Chips Are Down was based in California, where he won the Bien Bien Stakes and was 6 1/2-length winner at 2. He ran second in the El Cajon and Sunny Slope Stakes. A winner from 6 1/2 furlongs to 1 1/16 miles, he finished first or second in seven of 18 races and earned $171,535.
Chips Are Down is out of the winning Housebuster mare Tiy Buster, who is a half-sister to three stakes winners, including the dam of graded winner Eagleton.
