Grade I Winner Discreet Cat Retired to Darley

Discreet Cat will join Street Sense and Hard Spun as 2008 freshmen stallions at Darley Stud.

Grade I winner Discreet Cat, one of the world's top 3-year-olds of  last year, has been retired from racing and will stand at Sheikh Mohammed's Darley near Lexington. His fee is $30,000.

Discreet Cat was the co-highweighted 3-year-old on the 2006 Northern Hemisphere World Thoroughbred Rankings, sharing a 128 ranking with Eclipse Award winner Bernardini. Only Horse of the Year Invasorwas ranked above them in the 3-year-old and up category. Bernardini completed his first year as a Darley stallion in 2007.

A son of Forestry  , Discreet Cat closed out his 3-year-old season unbeaten in six starts. He won last year's Hill 'n' Dale Cigar Mile Handicap (gr. I) in track-record-equaling time of 1:32.46 at Aqueduct and the Jerome Breeders' Cup Handicap (gr. II) by 10 1/4 lengths, and was a group II winner in Dubai. He finished second in Eclipse Award balloting for best sprinter.

This year, Discreet Cat ran third in both the Vosburgh Stakes (gr. I) and the Oct. 26 Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile. He retired with six wins from nine races and earnings of $1,694,180.

Bred by the late E. Paul Robsham, Discreet Cat made his first start for Robsham's wife, Joyce, after which he was bought by Godolphin, a racing entity created by Sheikh Mohammed.

Discreet Cat is out of the multiple stakes-producing Private Account mare Pretty Discreet, who won the 1995 Alabama Stakes (gr. I).
