Turfrose took the lead two furlongs out and had just enough to hold off the late challenge of Fair Breeze to capture the Premio Lydia Tesio (Ity-I) by a short neck at Capannelle Oct. 28.
The 3-year-old daughter of Big Shuffle, who had only a listed win to her credit entering the event, was held up in mid-pack as Mystic Lips led the field throughout much of the 10-furlong contest. Turfrose moved to the front as the field entered the straight and was able to hold off the late challenges of Fair Breeze and Musical Way.
Fair Breeze and Musical Way fought it out for the minor awards, with Mario Hofer’s Fair Breeze holding on for second by three-quarters of a length over Musical Way.
Turfrose is out of the Shaadi mare, Turfquelle. She is from the stout German family of champions Tryphosa, Turfkonig, Touch of Land, and Touch Down. She was bred in Germany by Gestut Auenquelle.
