Pocahontas Stakes: Authenicat Looking For Third Straight Win By D'wildcat, out of Alydeed mare Authenic Deed, Authenicat was mighty impressive in her previous two starts, both gate-to-wire sprint scores. She will be stepping up to a mile in the Pocahontas. Bred in Ontario by Gail Wood, all five of Authenicat’s starts have been at Woodbine. On Sept. 6 she won an allowance by three lengths. That was followed up Oct. 3 with a 5 3/4-length triumph in the Victoria Queen Stakes. Josie Carrol trains Authenicat, who has won three times and only been off the board once. Robbie Albarado rides and will leave from post 11. Sky Mom will also be attempting to capture her fourth victory. The Maria's Mon filly has won a maiden event at Keeneland, in allowance competition at Churchill and most recently, took the Kentucky Cup Juvenile Fillies at Turfway Park Sept. 29, when she defeated current Pocahontas starters Mims Eppi and Kadira. Trained by Steve Asmussen, Sky Mom was purchased by Heather Stark for $27,000 at the Keeneland January 2006 Horses of All Ages sale. Carl Pollard’s Kadira has been consistent in five starts this year, missing the board just once while winning twice. Before the Kentucky Cup Juvenile Fillies defeat, the Kafwain filly won the Coca-Cola Bassinet Stakes at Woodbine. She was purchased for $250,000 as a yearling. Although having never tested stakes competition, Steamy Ridge has the looks of a nice filly, winning both her career starts at Louisiana Downs. Each victory was convincing, a four-length maiden score and a 4 1/4-length triumph in allowance competition. The daughter of Snow Ridge drew the rail and will get jockey Mark Guidry. Also in the field are Six Pack Sammy, Bee’s Wax, Tequilas Dayjur, Bount To, Bamboo, Cape Discovery, Valentine Fever, and Anachini. $150,000 Pocahontas Stakes (gr. III, Race 10, 5:02 p.m.), 2-Year-Old Fillies, One Mile
