After Market is set to take his place in the lineup for the Oct. 27 NetJets Breeders’ Cup Mile (gr. IT) despite some concerns from trainer John Shirreffs about the condition of the turf course.

Shirreffs had been due to work After Market on the turf at 9:30 a.m. Oct. 26 but instead gave him a breeze on dirt.

Despite rain at Monmouth Park, Shirreffs had some praise for the state of the turf course, a view shared by Aidan O’Brien, who will saddle Excellent Art, the likely Mile favorite.

“It’s beautiful, although a bit on the slow side,” O’Brien said. “All credit to the people at the track for keeping the turf as good as it is after all the rain we have had.”
