A public forum to discuss a new state law concerning the sale of horses in Florida will be held Oct. 29 in Tallahassee.
The forum, which will be held at 2 p.m. at the Eyster Auditorium of the Connor Building, 3125 Connor Blvd., will feature discussion on House Bill 1427
, which, in part, gives oversight on horse sales to the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.
Florida Gov. Charlie Crist signed the bill into law
after it was passed unanimously in both the Florida House and Senate.
The department has been given charge to develop rules aimed at protecting horse buyers and sellers. The rules are intended to promote sales transparency, full disclosure, and integrity in the sales process, as well as prevent fraud and unscrupulous trade practices in the horse industry.
At the forum, the department will summarize the bill and allow the public to address the proposed rules and the need for state law to protect buyers and sellers of horses.
