Because of heavy rain at Monmouth, the 1 1/16-mile Revidere was taken off turf and moved to the main track. It prompted Roshani, Naissance Royale and Mauralakana – all morning-line favorites – to scratch. The sloppy track also caused Amansara, Rasta Farian and Quite a Bride to drop out.
A field of six was left, and it turned out to be all Pure Disco, who won for the third consecutive time for trainer Tony Wilson. It was also the Disco Rico filly’s fourth score of the campaign and the seventh time in nine starts this year that she has been on the board.
Ridden by Charles Lopez, Pure Disco broke from post two and stayed toward the rail and set modest fractions of :24.47, :48.82 and 1:12.81. The 4-year-old New Jersey-bred filly led by a length-and-a-half over Delicate Dynamite as they reached the top of the stretch and held on well in the final sixteenth, winning by a length.
Betting favorite Delicate Dynamite finished second, three-quarters of a length ahead of Jenny Bean Girl. The final time was 1:43.68.
Going off as the second choice, Pure Disco paid $5 to win. The exacta (2-6) was worth $12.80.
Out of Concorde's Tune mare V for Vera, Pure Disco has now won eight of 23 career starts and has earned more than $410,000.
