Longshot Five Star Thief Steals Another at Keeneland Five Star Thief stole his second race of the 14-day Keeneland meeting Oct. 24, taking the featured $48,425 Circle O Purse by a nose, as bettors again ignored the 4-year-old son of Cat Thief. Two weeks ago Five Star Thief won a seven-furlong sprint and paid $105.20. On Oct. 24, he ran 1 1/8 miles in 1:49.34 and paid $32.40 as a 15-1 outsider in a field of nine 3-year-olds and up. Sinners N Saints closed fast between horses to finish second, a neck in front of third-place Rey Del Sol. It was 2 1/4 lengths back to fourth-place Three Twenty Three, the 3-1 favorite. Five Star Thief, who could have been claimed for $80,000, improved his record to five wins in 13 starts and increased his career earnings to $165,196 for owner Philip L. Davis. Out of Star de Naskra mare Five Star Night, he is trained by Dodson Skaggs. The winner, who was bred in Kentucky by Candyland Farm, was ridden by James Lopez. |
