The Ken Maddy Laboratory at the University of California-Davis made the determination after testing a urine sample collected from Gold Ruckus following a second-place finish in the first race at Golden Gate Fields June 2. According to a CHRB statement, Pennsylvania Equine Toxicology Laboratory confirmed the presence of 3-hydroxy xylazine in the split sample.
A hearing on the Class 2 violation has not been scheduled. Hollendorfer, a perennial leader among Northern California trainers, requested that all future proceedings in the matter be heard by the Office of Administrative Hearings.
The CHRB also filed a complaint against trainer Jeff Bonde for violation of rules after the Maddy Laboratory determined the urine sample collected from a horse in his care, El Sierra Tahoe, contained 3-hydroxy lidocaine. Industrial Laboratory reportedly confirmed the presence of the substance in the split sample. It is the major urinary metabolite of lidocaine, a local anesthetic. It is a Class 2 violation.
El Sierra Tahoe finished first in the ninth race at Bay Meadows Sept. 1. A hearing is scheduled before stewards Nov. 8 at Golden Gate Fields.
Dr. Kim Kuhlmann, veterinarian for El Sierra Tahoe, was named in a separate complaint that is also scheduled to be heard by stewards Nov. 8 at Golden Gate Fields. He told an investigator that due to a mix-up, El Sierra Tahoe was given lidocaine rather than lasix.
The stewards at Santa Anita disqualified Iron Butterfly from second in the second race at Santa Anita Park on Jan. 7 and ordered the purse distributed after Iron Butterfly tested positive for salmeterol, a Class 3 violation. Salmeterol is a beta-2 agonist similar to clenbuterol and albuterol.
