Jockey Joe Bravo earned his fourth win on Saturday's Belmont Park card by guiding Overbrook Farm's homebred Katz Me If You Can to a 3/4-length victory in the $150,000 Genuine Risk Handicap (gr. II). The D. Wayne Lukas-trained 4-year-old filly carried lightweight of 113 pounds and stopped the timer in 1:09.55 for the six furlongs on a fast track.
"She kicked very hard for me inside the sixteenth pole," said Bravo. "We beat a good group of horses today. What else can I say? Wayne Lukas is strong."
Katz Me If You Can returned $34.20, $13, and $10 and keyed a $229.50 exacta. Lucky Livi finished second and paid $11.20 and $8.30. Shine Again finished a head behind Lucky Livi and returned $5.80.
"The race set up perfect for Katz Me If You Can," said assistant trainer Mike Marlow. "She was closer than I anticipated. There was a lot of speed in there and I figured she would be at mid-pack at best. She makes one run now; she lost some of her early speed that she had when she was younger. She showed today that she is capable of firing big. All of her races have been against good horses; she's just a little inconsistent."
Shutup and Dance set the early pace before tiring to finish fourth, a neck behind Shine Again. Folly Dollar came home fifth, followed by Imadeed, Cedar Knolls, Swept Away, Dream for a Moment, and Away. 3-year-old Gold Mover was scratched.
The win is the first on the year for Katz Me If You Can, who finished a well-beaten third in her most recent start, the $84,000 Stravinsky on turf at Keeneland. Her last win came in October of last year in the Thoroughbred Club of America Stakes (gr. III) at Keeneland. Katz Me If You Can (Storm Cat -- Cuddles, by Mr. Prospector) earned $90,000 for her sixth win from 20 career starts. (Chart, Equibase
