Unbridled Mare Leads Way in Mixed Portion of Louisiana Sale

Silent Rapids, with her 2007 daughter by Storm Day at her side, brought $26,500 to top the mixed portion of the Breeders Sales Company of Louisiana yearling and mixed auction at the Ike Hamilton Expo Center in West Monroe, La. An 8-year-old winning daughter of Unbridled, Silent Rapids is in foal to Doneraile Court.

Jim Maikrantz purchased Silent Rapids from Clear Creek Stud, agent. Produced from the unraced Northern Flagship mare Sunset River, Silent Rapids is from the family of European Horse of the Year and North American champion Arazi.

Breeders Sales reported that 90 horses were sold Tuesday for a gross of $194,300. Their average price was $2,159, and their median price was $900. Compared to last year, when 78 horses were sold, the gross fell 10.7% from $217,650. The average dropped 22.6% from $2,790 while the median plunged 57.1% from $2,100.

This year's no bid/buy-back rate was 28.0%.

The mixed session ended the auction. The sale began Monday with a yearling session. The results, which have been adjusted by sale company officials since then, were 155 yearlings sold, a gross of $1,290,300, an average of $8,325, and a median of $4,300.
