Breeders’ Cup prospects Tale of Ekati and Benny the Bull both breezed on the fast Monmouth Park track Oct. 16 in preparation for their respective races, the Bessemer Trust Breeders' Cup Juvenile (gr. I) and the TVG Breeders' Cup Sprint (gr. I).
Tale of Ekati, winner of Belmont Park's Sept. 15 Futurity Stakes (gr. II) last time out, breezed one mile in 1:43 with jockey Eibar Coa aboard. Trainer Barclay Tagg shipped the 2-year-old son of Tale of the Cat to Monmouth early to give the colt a chance to negotiate two turns over the track before his scheduled Oct. 27 start.
Benny the Bull, second to Midnight Lute in the Sept. 1 Forego Stakes (gr. I) at Saratoga last time out, had been stabled at Aqueduct with trainer Rick Dutrow's New York string. The 4-year-old son of Lucky Lionel took his first look at the Monmouth surface when he breezed five furlongs in 1:00, the second-best of 15 works at the distance Oct. 16.
