Bravo Returns to Action With Victory

Joe Bravo, hoping to recover from injury in time for the Breeders’ Cup later this month, was victorious in his return to riding at the Meadowlands Oct. 13.

The all-time leading rider at the Meadowlands and Monmouth Park broke his left clavicle bone in a spill at Belmont Park Sept. 7. A New Jersey native who lives minutes from Monmouth Park, Bravo is cautiously optimistic that he will be able to pick up mounts for the World Championships, to be held Oct. 26-27 in Oceanport, N.J.

Bravo guided first-time starter Jazzy Jenna to a win for the Kelly Breen Stable in his return. Earlier in the day, he picked up checks with three mounts at Belmont Park.

Bravo, 36, has a record nine riding titles at Meadowlands and 13 more at Monmouth Park. This is the first time in its 24-year history that the Breeders’ Cup will be at Monmouth. Bravo, nicknamed “Jersey Joe,” said he would love to be a part of the action.

"All movements are okay; I'm ahead of schedule," said Bravo, a 19-year riding veteran. "The most important thing is having confidence in myself."
