Yes He’s the Man took advantage of a race without much early speed, getting the jump on his 10 rivals and cruising home in gate-to-wire fashion in the $100,000 Spend a Buck Handicap (gr. III) (VIDEO) Oct. 13 at Calder Race Course, his first career graded stakes win.

A Joel Sainer and J. David Braddy homebred, Yes He’s the Man also scored his first win of 2007, although it was the Yes It's True  colt’s fourth time on the board in five tries this campaign.

Also trained by Braddy, Yes He’s the Man went off as a 20-1 longshot. It was his fifth win in 13 lifetime starts and the fourth time the 4-year-old has scored at Calder.

Under jockey Julio Garcia, Yes He’s the Man set the early pace, going through moderate opening fractions of :24.31, :48.31, and 1:12.85 in the 1 1/16-mile test for 3-year-olds and up. Sitting just behind the leader for three-quarters were Zoobstick and betting favorites How’s Your Halo and Electrify.

As they turned for home Zoobstick and How’s Your Halo were tiring, while Electrify, who came in off a pair of stakes wins, was doing his best to stay close. But when Garcia asked for more in the stretch, Yes He’s the Man responded, pulling away to win by 4 3/4 lengths.

Out of Wild Again mare Wild Harem, Yes He’s the Man completed the eight-and-a-half furlongs in 1:45.14. He paid $42.80 to win.

Electrify, going off at odds of 2-1, finished second, while Summer Book rallied for third. The exacta (7-9) was worth $182.40, while the trifecta (7-9-2) paid $1,764.80.

Bred in Florida, Yes He’s the Man was making his first start around two turns this year.
