Amazer, a stakes-placed mare in foal to Exchange Rate , brought the top price of $40,000 during the third session of the Ocala Breeders' Sales Co. fall mixed sale Oct. 10 in Central Florida. Marion G. Montanari purchased the 6-year-old daughter of Quaker Ridge from Janie Roper, agent for Padua Stables.
Produced from the stakes-winning Mighty Appealing mare Mighty Rose, Amazer won one of her seven career races and finished third in the 2003 Forward Gal Stakes at Monmouth Park. Her first foal, by Yes It's True , was born in 2006.
The Wednesday session was the first of three in the sale for open horses, following two consignor-preferred sessions Monday and Tuesday. The 144 horses sold grossed $1,004,400 and averaged $6,975. The median was $5,000. The buy-back/no bid rate was 37.7%, with 87 of the 231 horses offered failing to find new homes.
Session-to-session comparisons with last year are difficult because the sale had three open sessions in 2006. The first open session a year ago fell on a Thursday, when 126 horses sold then brought $541,400. Their average was $4,297, and their median was $2,850.
The auction continues through Oct. 12, with selling beginning each day at 11 a.m. (EDT).
