KEEP Plans Stallion Season Auction to Raise Funds
From the Kentucky Equine Education Project
The Kentucky Equine Education Project will hold a stallion season auction Dec. 7 to raise funds to support promotion of the horse industry as well as legislative endeavors.
KEEP will offer breeding rights from many of Kentucky’s premiere breeding operations. They include Thoroughbreds, Standardbreds, Quarter Horses, American Saddlebreds, and many other breeds.
“KEEP hosted a successful auction in 2004 that helped us raise funds right after our organization was created,” KEEP chairman Brereton Jones said. “We used those funds for our ‘Horses Work’ promotional campaign to raise awareness of our organization and to develop our grassroots outreach to build statewide membership.
“We are asking all stallion owners of every breed to make a donation of a 2008 breeding for each of their stallions. There will be both a live and a silent auction. The funds raised will again help us continue promoting the importance of the horse to Kentucky’s economy and push for legislation critical to our industry.”
The event will be held at the Hyatt Regency Patterson Ballroom in Lexington. The price to attend the event is $300 per couple and $175 for individual tickets. Invitations will be sent to the equine community, but the 7 p.m. EST event is open to the public.
For more information on the event visit the KEEP Web site at www.horseswork.com or call 859-259-0007. To donate stallion seasons for the auction, please contact KEEP executive director Patrick Neely at 859-259-0007.
Meanwhile, KEEP launched its 2008 membership renewal drive. Since its inception in 2004, KEEP has signed up more than 11,000 members.
In 2008, KEEP’s legislative agenda will focus on removal of the 6% state sales tax on feed and equipment for horse owners. KEEP will continue to support local 4-H programs, horse shows, and breed associations around the state.
Membership in KEEP is $10 for adults, $5 for youths, and $20 for family members living in the same household.
