Jockeys Julian Pimentel and Jose Betancourt were injured in a spill during the sixth race at Laurel Park Oct. 6.

Pimentel was aboard Minute of Fame for conditioner Jonathan Sheppard when the 5-year-old gelding fell near the three-quarter pole, tossing the rider on his right shoulder. Betancourt jumped off Adopted Arrival as he tried to avoid Pimentel along the rail.

Betancourt suffered a lacerated knee, a possible rib fracture on his right side and swelling above the right eye according to Dr. Harry Harris, Maryland Jockey Club medical director. There was no word on the condition of Pimentel.

Maryland Racing Commission veterinarian Dr. David Zipf said neither horse was injured.
