Magic Millions Sale Rescheduled for Easter Period After considerable thought, negotiation and wranglings, Australia's biggest yearling sale -- the Conrad Jupiters Magic Millions Yearling Sale - will be held over the Easter period in 2008. It has moved from its usual date of the second week of January as a result of the devastation the Australian Thoroughbred industry has suffered following the August outbreak of EI. The revamped 2008 carnival will run from Monday, March 24 (Easter Monday) next year. The start day has changed also. Traditionally the MM Yearling sale on the Queensland Gold Coast starts on a Thursday. In 2008, however, it will kick off on a Monday and begin with an evening session following the running of the Aus$4.1 million Magic Millions race day at the Gold Coast racecourse on Easter Monday. Also debuting is a five session premier sale (previously the first four days were the big days of selling). Nine sessions in all have been programmed for the 2008 sale. Selling will cease on Saturday, March 29, then recommence with session six set to be staged from Sunday, March 30. "Magic Millions intended to delay the announcement of rescheduled dates for the Conrad Jupiters Magic Millions Yearling Sale and Raceway as long as possible for obvious reasons," managing director David Chester said. "But over the last few days our company has come under a great deal of pressure by domestic and international buyers as well as breeders to end the speculation." Chester said the Easter time slot selected was the most suitable to suit their great number of clients. "This time slot also ensures our sales and raceway will not clash with any other major raceways or Thoroughbred events in the region," Chester commented. "As well as this, our new dates fit favorably with our large and ever increasing international buying bench. The new dates will also provide owners and trainers with more time to prepare their horses for the rich Magic Millions raceway at the Gold Coast - the only raceway of its kind in the world and the richest in Queensland." Chester also announced an initiative by Magic Millions to assist breeders and vendors in the lead up to the 2008 auction. "To assist vendors in their preparation of yearlings for the sale, Magic Millions will offer up to four weeks complimentary stabling at the Gold Coast in the lead up to the sale." Chester said the originally programmed dates for the Magic Millions Yearling Sales in Perth, Adelaide and Tasmania would run as scheduled in 2008.
