Native Diver Handicap winner Saint Stephen is retired to stud in Alberta, Canada

Saint Stephen, a graded stakes-winning full brother to champion Ashado, will enter stud at Lynn Chouinard's Bar None Ranches near Dewinton, Alberta, Canada. Purchased by Bar None, the 7-year-old son of Saint Ballado will stand for CAN $5,000.

A stakes winner on dirt and turf, Saint Stephen captured last year's Native Diver Handicap (gr. III) at Hollywood Park after a seven-month layoff. He had won the Henry S. Clark Stakes on turf in his previous race.

Trained by Christophe Clement, Saint Stephen retired with seven wins from 28 races and earnings of $313,214. His other stakes efforts included placings in the 2003 National Museum of Racing Hall of Fame Handicap (gr. II) at Saratoga and this year's Ft. Lauderdale Stakes on grass at Gulfstream Park.

Bred in Kentucky by Aaron and Marie Jones, Saint Stephen was bought for $400,000 by Peter Karches at the 2001 Fasig-Tipton Kentucky July sale yearling. Karches raced Saint Stephen with Charles and Susan Harris until his death in 2006, after which his wife, Susan, became a part-owner.

In addition to being a full brother to Ashado, Saint Stephen is a full brother to grade II winner Sunriver.
