Hale Named Charles Town HBPA Executive Director

The Charles Town Horsemen’s Benevolent and Protective Association has hired racing industry veteran Lenny Hale as its new executive director, the organization announced Oct. 1.

Currently a licensed trainer, Hale worked from 1966-75 as assistant starter/starter, paddock judge, patrol judge, and/or placing judge at Hialeah Park, Calder Race Course , Delaware Park, and Garden State Park. From 1975-83, Hale served as assistant racing secretary or racing secretary at Arlington Park and the New York Racing Association tracks.

From 1983-93, Hale was vice president/senior vice president racing and properties for NYRA. From 1993-01, Hale served as vice president of racing for the Maryland Jockey Club as well as racing secretary at Colonial Downs. For the past few years, he has been a consultant and has handled the boarding of broodmares and lay-ups at Rockburn Farm in Marshall, Va.
