Goffs Million Sale Figures Fall Short of 2006 Equivalents

The Sept. 30 opening session of the Goffs Million yearling sale in Ireland saw a solid trade, but figures fell short of their 2006 equivalents.
 
The 17,482,000 euros (about $24,881,321) turnover for 162 sold (compared to 191 in 2006) fell by 20.7%, the 107,914 euros (about $153,589) average was down 6.5%, and the 70,000 euros (about $99,619) median dropped 6.7%.
 
Coolmore agent Demi O’Byrne accounted for four of the top five lots, including the two 650,000 euros (about $925,020) session toppers.
 
One of the session toppers, a Galileo colt, is a half-brother to French group I winner Fidelite. Bred by Paget Bloodstock, he was consigned by Clare Castle. The other $650,000 euro purchase was a Montjeu colt out of the Machiavellian mare Maskaya, who was offered from the consignment of Denis Brosnan’s Croom House Stud.
 
John Ferguson bought one lot, a 130,000 euros (about $185,036) King’s Best colt, while Sheikh Hamdan's Shadwell also made a solitary purchase, spending 310,000 euros (about $441,252) on an Elusive Quality   colt.
