Art Master, the second choice at 9-2 in the morning line for the Sept. 29 Kelso (gr. IIT) at Belmont Park, will not run, according to his trainer, Bobby Frankel.

Frankel said Sept. 28 that graded winner Art Master suffered from a quarter crack that was discovered after he was entered on Sept. 27 to run in the $250,000 Kelso. On top of that, Art Master drew the outside post (11) in the mile Widener turf race.

“Between the post and the quarter crack, the gods were telling me not to run,” Frankel said. “He didn’t fire in his last race in Canada, and I bet it was because of the quarter crack. At least now I have an excuse.”

Art Master finished ninth in the Woodbine Mile (Can-IT) Sept. 16. During the summer, he won the Poker Handicap (gr. IIIT) at Belmont Park. He was third in last year’s Kelso.

Frankel said the quarter crack was patched and that he would point Art Master to the Oct. 6 Shadwell Turf Mile (gr.IT) at Keeneland.
