Oregon Sire Tiffany Ice Dead

Tiffany Ice, a top 10 Oregon sire the last several years, was euthanized in April because of cancerous tumors and complications from the infirmities of old age. The 25-year-old son of Icecapade stood at Neal and Pam Christopherson's Bar C Racing Stables near Hermiston, Ore.

Tiffany Ice was bred to just one mare this year, but not just any mare. Crowning Ambition, by Chief's Crown, had produced Oregon champions Corona Del Hielo and Silver Patrona from earlier matings to Tiffany Ice.

Bred and raced by Mrs. Charles Thieriot, Tiffany Ice ran against Chief's Crown in the 1984 Hopeful Stakes (gr. I) at Saratoga and finished second to that year's divisional champion. In an earlier start at the Spa, he won the Sanford Stakes (gr. II)

At 3, Tiffany Ice captured the Dance Spell Stakes and ran second in the Riva Ridge Stakes, both at Belmont Park. He raced at 4 and was retired with five wins from 19 starts and earnings of $188,095. He entered stud at Wayne Lyster III's Ashview Farm near Versailles, Ky., and stood at other farms before ending up at Bar C Racing.

Tiffany Ice, who was out of the Chieftain mare Auntie's Niece and whose second dam was a half-sister to Horse of the Year Damascus, is represented by 14 stakes winners and the earners of $6.2 million. His added-money winners include two-time Mexican Horse of the Year Dilic and Canadian champion Buckys Solution.
