McCartney soared to the top of the charts with a runaway victory in the Urban-I Champagne Stakes (Eng-II) at Doncaster Sept. 15.

The cleverly named son of In the Wings thrashed a field of promising juveniles to win the seven-furlong contest by an impressive 2 1/2-lengths for trainer Mark Johnston.

McCartney broke alertly and led for a furlong before being taken back by jockey Ryan Moore. The lead was then assumed by Maze, who was rank and pulling very hard under Royston Ffrench.

Moore kept McCartney racing prominently in second, and the duo took command again with two furlongs left. McCartney began to draw off from the field for a convincing victory.

Alexander Castle, a son of Lemon Drop Kid  , got up for second, 1 1/4-lengths in front of One Great Cat. Time for the seven furlongs was 1:25.04 over the good to firm turf.

McCartney, who is out of the Dashing Blade mare, Messina, was bred in Germany by Gestut Brummerhof. He is owned by Sheikh Mohammed.
