Seattle Shamus, an 8-year-old son of Seattle Slew, died Sept. 5 from complications of colic at Dr. Jack Root's Oakhurst Farm near Newberg, Ore. He was owned by Root and his wife, Margaret, in partnership with Karen and Mickey Taylor and Albert Finney. The Taylors raced Triple Crown winner Seattle Slew in partnership.
Bred by the Taylors and Albert Finney Stables, Seattle Shamus won three of 10 races and earned $126,880. His maiden win came after setting a wildly fast fraction of :20.96 for the opening quarter-mile at Santa Anita.
Oakhurst reported there are 45 mares in foal to Seattle Shamus, whose first foals are yearlings. Seattle Shamus was produced from grade I-placed Footing (by Forty Niner).
