The Texas Horse Racing Hall of Fame will honor several influential industry figures in the Lone Star State at its annual Gala Oct. 13.

The gala and induction of Hall of Fame honorees will be held before and during the races at Retama Park. The day of racing at Retama will offer stakes races worth $500,000 that have attracted Texas-bred horses across the Southwest.

Four of the stakes will be contested on the Retama Park turf course, while the other two are for 2-year-olds on the main track. The night’s signature event is the $100,000 Texas Horse Racing Hall of Fame Stakes, run at 1 1/16 miles on the grass.

The 2007 Hall of Fame inductees are Preston Carter, Jr., Carl Nafzger, and several historic racetracks. Former inductee D. Wayne Lukas will be an honored guest.

A life member of the Texas Quarter Horse Association, the Texas Thoroughbred Association, and the American Quarter Horse Association, Carter campaigned 1893 All American futurity winner On A High and stood leading sire Sixarun.

A Texas native, Nafzger is a two-time Kentucky Derby (gr. I) winning trainer. Saddling Unbridled to win the 1990 Run for the Roses, he followed that victory with Street Sense's impressive triumph in 2007.
