Scipion, a half-brother to champion and promising young sire Vindication, has been retired from racing. Stud plans for the 5-year-old son of A.P. Indy are undecided.

Racing as a homebred for Virginia Kraft Payson, Scipion made what The Blood-Horse called a "big impression" in winning a maiden race at Saratoga in his debut at 2, turning "in a spectacular run through the stretch" to win the seven-furlong race. In his next start, he placed in the Miller Genuine Draft Cradle Stakes (gr. III) at River Downs.

Scipion won the Risen Star Stakes (gr. III) at Fair Grounds at 3 and ran second in the Point Given Stakes at Monmouth Park later in his career. He retired with wins or placings in eight of 17 races and earnings of $194,056.

Scipion, who is out of the graded stakes-winning Strawberry Road mare Strawberry Reason, and Vindication are even more closely related. Vindication's sire, Seattle Slew, is the sire of A.P. Indy.
