Fastness

Fastness, sire of millionaire and Canadian champion Le Cinquieme Essai, will stand at Fox Tale Stud near Coopersburg, Pa. The 17-year-old son of Rousillon formerly stood at Greensfields Farm near Colts Neck, N.J.

An 8-year-old, Le Cinquieme Essai upped his career earnings to $1,314,636 with a victory in the Aug. 25 Play the King Stakes (Can-IIT) at Woodbine. Le Cinquieme Essai, who won the Play the King last year, was Canada's champion 3-year-old male in 2002.

A millionaire himself, Fastness has sired additional stakes winners Make the Bend and Multiplicity, plus six stakes-placed runners. His progeny earnings are $4.2 million. In 2007, 91% of the mares bred to Fastness were pronounced in foal.

Fastness won consecutive runnings of the Eddie Read Handicap (gr. IT) and captured three other graded stakes. He ran second in the 1995 Breeders' Cup Mile (gr. IT).

Fastness, who is out of the Troy mare City Fortress, will stand for $3,500 live foal, with an introductory fee of $2,000 live foal for Pennsylvania-breds.
