Trainer David MacLean Dead

David MacLean, who trained from 1982 to this year, died Aug. 17 of cancer at his home in Orangeville, Ontario, Canada. He was 49.

MacLean, who trained for a time for Arlington Park owner Richard Duchossois, sent our eight stakes winners, including graded winner Katahaula County. His Canadian stakes winners included Corseque and Kazbek. The former won the Connaught Cup Stakes and Seagram Cup Handicap, and Kazbek captured the Canadian Maturity Stakes.

MacLean, who also spent time training in Aiken S.C., is survived by his wife, Tess, and two sons.
