Female Jockey Dies in Car Crash

Lucy Burch, 28, a jockey who had been competing at Louisiana Downs, died in a car accident Aug. 15, Daily Racing Form reported in its Aug. 17 edition.

The accident occurred at about midnight in Shreveport, La. Burch, a passenger in a vehicle that rolled over, reportedly died at the scene. She had been slated to ride in the fourth race at Harrah's Louisiana Downs Aug. 17.

According to DRF, Burch won 21 races from 388 mounts for earnings of $247,425. A native of Alabama, she rode her first winner May 27, 2001, in Boise, Idaho.
