California Stakes Winner Jet West to Applebite

Jet West, a California stakes winner out of a California Broodmare of the Year, has been retired from racing and will enter stud at Joan Rogers' Applebite Farms near French Camp, Calif.

A two-time stakes winner, Jet West scored his big win for owner Bruce Hochman in the 2005 California Cup Sprint Handicap, with future champion sprinter Thor's Echo finishing third. He placed in six added-money races, including the Gulf News Dubai Golden Shaheen (UAE-I) and Palos Verdes (gr. II) and El Conejo (gr. III) Handicaps. He retired with seven wins from 22 races and earnings of $554,345.

A son of Western Fame, Jet West is a half-brother to stakes winners Jetin Excess and Jetinto Houston and is out of the stakes-winning Kennedy Road mare Jetinwith Kennedy. A fee will be announced later.
