Fasig-Tipton New York Open Sale Suffers Setbacks

A Lion Hearted   colt named I Got Things to Do brought $50,000 to top the Fasig-Tipton New York open yearling sale, which suffered downturns in business Tuesday in Saratoga Springs. Trainer Barclay Tagg, acting on behalf of David Mahan, purchased the dark bay or brown colt from Saratoga Glen Farm, agent.

Jennifer Contessa bred the sale topper in New York. The colt is out of the 12-year-old unraced Clever Trick mare Flying Nightengale and is a half-brother to 2005 Finger Lakes Juvenile Stakes winner Fly to Me (by Belong to Me  ).

The final figures for the auction were 73 horses sold, a gross of $523,600, an average price of $7,173, and a median price of $4,500. All figures except for the number sold, were down from last year, when the 70 horses sold grossed $680,500 and averaged $9,721. The 2006 median was $5,350.

The buy-back rate dropped from 47.4% last year to 42.5% this year.
