World record-setter One Hot Wish returns in the Sorrento.
Led by world record-setter One Hot Wish, three-time winner Carbella, and graded stakes-placed American County, a field of nine is expected for Wednesday’s $150,000 Sorrento Stakes (gr. III) for 2-year-old fillies going 6 1/2 furlongs on the Del Mar Polytrack.

One Hot Wish set a world record mark for 4 1/2 furlongs in :48.87 in breaking her maiden by 12 1/4 lengths over Keeneland's Polytrack April 12 for trainer Wesley Ward. The Sorrento will be her first start since.

After failing to sell at auction, One Hot Wish has remained in Ward's care. Bred by Ward, One Hot Wish is by Bring the Heat out of Wish for a Jeanne, by Roar.

Carbella actually has crossed the finish line first in all four of her starts, but was disqualified at Santa Anita in her first start. She was sent north from there by trainer Adam Kitchingman and posted three straight wins -- at Golden Gate Fields, Pleasanton and Santa Rosa.

American County finished third in Churchill Downs’ Debutante Stakes (gr. III) before coming to Del Mar as part of a string representing Kentucky-based trainer Dale Romans.

Meet-leading trainer Peter Miller will take two shots at the Sorrento.

Miller plans to saddle Princess Susan M and Set Play in the filly dash. Princess Susan M broke her maiden in a claiming race at Del Mar July 19 and Set Play won at first asking and then finished third in Hollywood Park’s Landaluce Stakes. Both fillies worked five furlongs Aug. 3 on the main track, Princess Susan M clocking 1:02 2/5 and Set Play 1:01 4/5.

Also set for the juvenile filly sprint is Another Aleyna, who won first time out May 3 at Hollywood Park; Tasha’s Miracle, a maiden winner at Hollywood Park July 1; Elsie Jo, winner at Del Mar July 23 in her first start, and Foxy Danseur, winless in two starts.

Working Aug. 4 on Polytrack were Another Aleyna, who covered five furlongs in 1:03 3/5, and Foxy Danseur, :48 3/5 for a half-mile.
