Teuflesburg already has run 18 times in about 15 months of racing. But the 3-year-old son of Johannesburg will make his turf debut at Saratoga Aug. 4 in the $80,000 Glow Stakes.
The race is designed to serve as a springboard for the $250,000 King’s Bishop Stakes (gr. I) Aug. 25 at Saratoga. Trainer Jamie Sanders said the young iron horse has shown no signs of slowing down.
"He loves the game and he’s ready to go again,” Sanders said. "He has breezed over the turf a few times and he loves it. This should be a good prep for the King’s Bishop."
Teuflesburg won the Woody Stephens Stakes (gr. II) at Belmont Park June 9 and followed up that effort with a second-place finish in a stakes at Calder Race Course July 7. The Kentucky-bred has hit the board in nine of 18 races and has earned nearly $600,000. He made his Saratoga debut last summer in the Sanford Stakes (gr. II), losing by a neck to Scat Daddy.
Earlier this year, Teuflesburg finished a distant 17th in the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr.I).
