Turfway Park Promotes Chapman to Track Superintendent

Turfway Park has promoted longtime staff member Jeff Chapman to the position of track superintendent.

Chapman’s responsibilities center on management of Turfway’s Polytrack racing surface, which was installed in 2005. Turfway was the first track in North America to install the all-weather surface for racing.

A Northern Kentucky native, Chapman began working for Turfway in 1986 as a member of the track’s stable area maintenance crew. He was promoted to shift supervisor in 1994 and to barn maintenance manager in 2005. He will continue to serve as barn maintenance manager in addition to his new duties.

“The role of the track superintendent is vital to our operation and requires a very specific, unique skill set that only a few individuals possess,” Turfway president and chief executive officer Robert Elliston said in an Aug. 1 release.  “Jeff is one of those few. He has contributed tremendously to Turfway Park over the past 20 years. We have seen a dramatic improvement in the quality of the stable area, as well as the horsemen’s satisfaction during his tenure, and we are confident he will continue that record in maintaining a safe, effective racing surface.”
