TVG said July 26 it will televise the Old National Bank Claiming Crown, to be held Aug. 4 at Ellis Park in Henderson, Ky., and donate all fees it would normally retain from wagers to Claiming CrownLtd. to benefit the annual event, which showcases some of the country's more competitive horses.
Founded by the National Horsemen’s Benevolent and Protective Association and the Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association, the Claiming Crown is a unique day of racing devoted to claiming horses, the hard-working competitors that form the backbone of American Thoroughbred racing. This year’s event features a seven-race format that will allow horsemen nationwide to race their claiming horses for guaranteed purses totaling $600,000.
“The Claiming Crown is a special day for horsemen across the country, and we believe it is important to do our part to contribute to the future prosperity of the event,” said David Nathanson, general manager of TVG. He said the company is encouraging all other account wagering providers to follow TVG's lead and donate their proceeds from Claiming Crown wagers to Claiming Crown Ltd.
