Friel's for Real, a graded stakes winner, died July 18 at the Young family's Overbrook Farm near Lexington. Her death, the cause of which is unknown, came during a severe thunderstorm. She was in foal to Street Cry.

A Florida-bred daughter of Sword Dance, Friel's for Real made all but the last of her 33 starts for her breeder, Gilbert G. Campbell. For Campbell, she won six stakes, including the 2004 Pimlico Breeders' Cup Distaff Handicap (gr. III). She also won two runnings of both the Lady's Secret Stakes at Monmouth Park and the Gala Lil Stakes at Laurel.

For Overbrook, Friel's for Real ran unplaced in the Sunshine Millions Distaff Stakes in January. She retired with 13 wins and earnings of $674,544 and was bred to Street Cry.

A full sister to stakes winner Little Thunder, 7-year-old Friel's for Real was the first foal from the stakes-placed Unreal Zeal mare Beaties for Real.
