Street Sense Works at Saratoga

Derby winner Street Sense had his first Saratoga workout Thursday morning.

Street Sense, winner of this year’s Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I), worked at Saratoga July 26.. The son of Street Cry went an easy four furlongs in :51.59 under regular rider Calvin Borel.

“All we wanted to do this morning was to let him feel the track and he came on across it well,” said trainer Carl Nafzger. “He’s a nice quiet horse; I already know how fast he can go, I didn’t need to find out if he has speed.”

“He went good,” said Borel. “It’s what we wanted, to see how he would handle the track, and he went across it like a bear. He’s just blossomed; he was a lot more forward with me this morning. He’s just an awesome horse.”

Street Sense, last narrowly beaten by Curlin in the May 19 Preakness Stakes (gr. I), is considered a likely candidate for the July 29 Jim Dandy (gr. I) at Saratoga.
