"Poor Pepe looked like a gerbil hanging on to a piece of PVC pipe," Bob Baffert said Saturday morning after Kentucky Derby favorite Point Given gave the trainer a scare following a routine gallop over the Churchill Downs surface. Baffert said Point Given came off the track, wheeled, and repeatedly reared straight up in the air, flailing his front legs, and causing exercise rider Pepe Aragon to hold on for dear life."Nothing spooked him," Baffert said. "There was only one camera around. This horse is just feeling so good and is so full of himself. He's just a handful. Pepe did a great job hanging on. The last thing we'd need is for him to get loose on the racetrack." Point Given did just that at Santa Anita one morning last month.Baffert said Point Given settled down after the incident and the trainer isn't concerned the colt will show any antics in the walk over from the stable area or in the saddling paddock prior to the Derby. "He's fine in the afternoon," Baffert said. "He just get so full of himself in the morning."
