Lucky North, a 26-year-old son of Northern Dancer, was pensioned at Cam and Sherisse Ziprick's Ziprick Thoroughbreds near Russell, Manitoba, Canada, after failing to impregnate a mare the past breeding season. He was moved to the farm for the 2005 season from John Franks' Franks Farm Southland Division near Ocala, Fla.
Lucky North, who raced for Franks, is represented by 18 stakes winners, including graded stakes winners Zeeruler and Clearly a Queen. Zeeruler earned $848,552, and Clearly a Queen banked $504,532. Lucky North has sired the earners of $16.1 million.
As a broodmare sire, Lucky North is represented by millionaire and grade I winner Lady Tak and additional millionaire Brass in Pocket.
Bred in Maryland by Allaire du Pont and produced from the Olden Times mare Lucky Ole Me, Lucky North won the 1986 Hot Springs Handicap at Oaklawn Park and Phoenix Handicap at Keeneland. He stood first at The Oaks near Ocala before being moved to Franks Farm.
