Simply Perfect Wins Paceless Falmouth Stakes

Simply Perfect benefited from a well-judged ride by Johnny Murtagh as she led every step of the way to capture the UAE Hydra Properties Falmouth Stakes (Eng-I) at Newmarket on Wednesday.

The late scratch of last year's Stan James One Thousand Guineas (Eng-I) winner Speciosa meant that the eight-furlong Falmouth would not have much of a pace.  Murtagh took the initiative and bounced Simply Perfect out of the starting gate and never looked back on their way to a comfortable one-length victory.

South African challenger Irridescence, a group I winner in South Africa and Hong Kong, performed admirably in her first run since March, capturing second by a neck over Arch Swing.

Both Red Evie and the favorite, Nannina, were undone by the lack of pace, and were never a factor.

The Nassau Stakes (Eng-I) at Goodwood could be the next possible start for the Jeremy Noseda-trained 3-year-old.  Runner-up Irridescence, who is owned by Team Valor, will head to the States for a start in the Beverly D. Stakes (gr. IT) at Arlington Park.

Simply Perfect is a 3-year-old gray daughter of Danehill, out of Hotelgenie Dot Com, by Selkirk.
