Carl T. Grether, who raced California graded stakes winners Crafty C. T. and Madame Pietra, died July 1 of complications from Parkinson's disease.
Crafty C. T. not only was a grade II winner, but was grade I-placed six times. Campaigned earlier this decade, Crafty T. C. captured the San Rafael Stakes (gr. II) and placed in such stakes as the NAPA Breeders' Cup Sprint (gr. I), Santa Anita Derby (gr. I), and Metropolitan Handicap (gr. I). He earned $832,652.
Madame Pietra captured five stakes en route to earning $437,215. Her big win came in the 2003 Desert Stormer Handicap (gr. III).
A funeral will be held at St. James Episcopal Church in South Pasadena, Calif.
